Plume Behavior in Changing Turbulence

We like this series of plume images since it shows how the atmosphere can locally change over the course of a few minutes: from a uniform wind field – providing nice, laminar flow and yielding a smooth, focused plume – to a more turbulent flow, influenced by convective eddies. The plume here is 25m from the QLM gas imaging lidar camera and has a 10 kg/hr release rate the camera measured at 10.6 kg/hr. To comply with new EPA regulations, continuous monitoring solutions like ours must be able to provide consistent and accurate methane emissions quantification results in changing conditions. These images were captured during a measurement campaign with our partners at SLB at the TTU Oilfield Tech Center.
